Couples Intensive Therapy Caloundra| Sunshine Coast
Half-Day and Full-Day Couples Therapy in Caloundra
More time to slow things down and work through what matters
When I work with couples in my Sunshine Coast practice, I often see partners caught in repeating cycles where conversations escalate quickly or shut down altogether. From a clinical perspective, these patterns are rarely about the surface issue and are more often driven by underlying emotional needs, attachment responses, and learned ways of coping with conflict. In couples intensive therapy, extended sessions allow us to slow these interactions down in real time, identify the relational patterns at play, and work through them with greater depth than is typically possible in standard marriage counselling or relationship counselling sessions, which might otherwise take months to reach in weekly or fortnightly appointments.
At KindSpace Therapy, I offer Couples Intensive Therapy on the Sunshine Coast in Caloundra, providing half-day and full-day intensive couples counselling for partners who are ready to invest focused time in their relationship.
Whether you are experiencing persistent relationship conflict, working to rebuild trust following betrayal, noticing patterns of emotional disconnection, or seeking to strengthen your relationship before difficulties escalate, couples intensive therapy offers a structured, clinically informed approach to facilitate meaningful and sustained change.
When weekly couples therapy doesn't feel like enough
Many couples tell me they leave a session feeling hopeful, only to find themselves back in the same pattern before their next appointment.
Not because therapy isn't helping.
Often there simply hasn't been enough uninterrupted time to fully understand what's happening, slow the conversation down, and work through it together.
Couples intensive therapy offers something different.
Instead of stopping just as you begin making progress, we have the time to stay with the conversation, understand the emotional cycle you're caught in, and begin creating new ways of relating while you're both still in the room.
Longer sessions often allow for deeper reflection, greater understanding, and practical change that can be difficult to achieve within standard appointments.
What Is A Couples Counselling Intensive?
A couples intensive is a structured therapeutic process that combines assessment, individual sessions, thoughtful preparation, and extended couples therapy sessions tailored specifically to your relationship.
As an experienced therapist, I approach couples intensive therapy on the Sunshine Coast as an opportunity to slow things down and create meaningful space for understanding. Rather than spreading the work across many weeks, we create dedicated time to focus on your relationship, helping you move beyond surface-level conversations and towards lasting change.
Before your intensive, I carefully review your assessment information, reflect on both individual sessions, and develop a personalised treatment plan informed by evidence-based approaches such as Gottman couples therapy and attachment-based work. This preparation allows us to use our time together in a focused and purposeful way.
This means we begin your couples intensive in Caloundra with a clear understanding of your relationship, the patterns that are keeping you stuck, and the areas most likely to create meaningful movement and reconnection.
The Couples Counselling Intensive Process
Every intensive follows a structured process designed to help both partners feel understood while ensuring our time together is purposeful and focused.
Couples Assessment Session
We begin with a 90-minute session together.
This gives me the opportunity to understand your relationship history,
strengths, current challenges, and what each of you hopes will be different.
Individual Sessions
I then meet with each partner separately.
These sessions provide space for each of you to share your experiences,
relationship history, concerns, and goals in a way that feels safe and supported.
Clinical Review & Tailored Treatment Planning
Before your intensive, I complete a comprehensive review of all assessment information.
Using everything gathered throughout the assessment process, I develop a tailored treatment plan designed specifically for your relationship.
This allows us to spend less time gathering information and more time creating meaningful change during your intensive.
Couples Intensive Session
During your intensive we work together to understand recurring relationship patterns, improve communication, strengthen emotional connection, and develop practical ways of responding differently to one another.
The pace is slower than standard therapy, allowing important conversations to unfold naturally while remaining supported throughout the process.

My Approach
Every couple brings two equally important experiences into the room.
As an experienced couples counsellor, my role is to help each of you feel heard, understood, and respected while gently guiding conversations that may have become difficult to have on your own.
I integrate Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to understand the patterns that keep couples feeling disconnected. These evidence-based approaches allow us to explore communication breakdowns, emotional needs, attachment patterns, and the internal experiences that influence how you relate to one another.
Together we slow these moments down, helping you understand what is happening beneath the conflict while developing practical, research-informed ways of responding differently. This includes strengthening communication skills, rebuilding emotional safety, and creating deeper connection.
My style is warm, genuine, curious, and direct.
There are times I'll gently notice patterns that may be difficult to see from inside the relationship, always with care, compassion, and respect for both partners.
Couples therapy with me focuses on understanding both partners’ experiences and supporting the relationship as a whole. I know that many couples come in feeling worried that a therapist might take sides or favour one person over the other. From my experience, this is a really common concern. My role isn’t to decide who is right or wrong, but to help both of you feel heard, understood, and respected while we make sense of what’s happening between you.
It's about understanding your relationship together and creating meaningful, lasting change.

FAQs
-
Probably not, and I think it's important to be honest about that.
A Couples Intensive is designed to create meaningful momentum, not to resolve months or years of relationship difficulties in a single day.
Many couples leave their intensive with a much clearer understanding of one another, greater insight into the patterns keeping them stuck, and practical ways to communicate differently. Those changes then need time and practice to become part of everyday life.
Some couples continue with regular couples counselling or marriage counselling after their intensive, while others choose to return for additional half-day or full-day intensives over time. We'll decide together what is most likely to support your relationship and your goals.
-
Every relationship is different, so there isn't a set number of therapy sessions that works for everyone.
Research suggests that many couples benefit from approximately 12 to 20 couples therapy sessions, although this varies depending on the concerns you bring, how long the difficulties have been present, and your goals for therapy.
If you've experienced years of recurring conflict, emotional distance, communication difficulties, or growing disconnection, meaningful change often takes time, consistency, and practice.
Couples Intensive Therapy provides an opportunity to build strong momentum by completing deeper assessment and therapeutic work in a shorter period. Many couples then continue with ongoing relationship counselling or marriage counselling, while others return for additional intensives as they continue strengthening their relationship.

Yes.
Couples Intensive Therapy can be a valuable starting point for couples recovering from betrayal, infidelity, or another significant breach of trust.
Healing after betrayal involves much more than rebuilding trust. It often includes making sense of what happened, processing grief and hurt, rebuilding emotional safety, learning healthier ways to communicate, and gradually reconnecting emotionally.
A half-day or full-day intensive gives us dedicated time to begin this work together. Recovery from betrayal is usually an ongoing process rather than a single session, and many couples choose to combine an intensive with ongoing couples counselling or marriage counselling to continue rebuilding their relationship.

Yes.
Every Couples Intensive Therapy package begins with a structured assessment process.
This includes a 90-minute joint assessment session, one individual session with each partner, and a comprehensive clinical review of all assessment information.
Before your intensive, I develop a personalised treatment plan based on everything we've explored together. This allows us to spend our intensive focusing on the relationship patterns that matter most, rather than using valuable time gathering information.

Yes.
My work integrates Gottman Method Couples Therapy, alongside Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment theory, and trauma-informed relationship therapy.
Every relationship is unique. Rather than following a single model, I draw on evidence-based approaches that best support your relationship, helping you strengthen communication, rebuild trust, deepen emotional connection, and better understand the patterns keeping you stuck.
-
Absolutely.
Many couples seek marriage counselling or relationship counselling long before they're considering separation. In fact, seeking support earlier often makes change easier because patterns have had less time to become deeply established.
Couples don't need to be on the brink of ending their relationship to benefit from therapy. Many attend to strengthen communication, reconnect emotionally, navigate major life transitions, prepare for marriage, improve intimacy, or simply invest in the health of their relationship.
