Individual Counselling

Trauma-Focused therapy for adults and adolescents in Caloundra

Neuro-affirming, trauma-informed therapy on the Sunshine Coast that feels grounded, practical, and deeply human.

At KindSpace Therapy in Caloundra, I provide individual therapy for adults and adolescents navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship stress, burnout, identity shifts, attachment wounds, and life transitions. Sessions are evidence-based, neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and tailored to you.

I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR to support meaningful, lasting change that goes deeper than short-term relief

What I Help With

Individual counselling can support you if you are:

  • Living with anxiety, overthinking, or panic

  • Recovering from trauma, family violence, or childhood wounds

  • Feeling stuck in people pleasing or self doubt

  • Struggling with relationship patterns or attachment issues

  • Navigating separation, betrayal, or grief

  • Experiencing burnout or work stress

  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or shut down

  • Wanting to rebuild confidence and self worth

  • Living with ADHD or autism and seeking neuroaffirming support

You do not need to be in crisis to begin therapy. Many people come because something feels “off” and they are ready to understand themselves more deeply.

What Sessions Feel Like

Beginning individual counselling can feel exposing. Even sending the first enquiry can bring up nerves. That makes sense.

At KindSpace Therapy in Caloundra, my individual counselling sessions are grounded in evidence-based approaches, including ACT, DBT, IFS, and EMDR (More about them below). At the same time, they feel steady and human.

You don’t need the perfect words. You don’t need to be “good” at therapy. You just need to show up as you are.

I’m engaged and present in the room. Warm, grounded, and thoughtful. I won’t rush you or push you somewhere you are not ready to go. You set the pace.

If something feels too much, we slow it down.
If you’re ready to explore something more deeply, we do that carefully and safely.

My work is trauma-informed and neuroaffirming. That means we pay attention to your nervous system, your history, and the context of your life. We work with your patterns rather than judging them. Your coping strategies make sense when we understand where they came from.

Sessions may include:

  • Practical skills for anxiety and emotional regulation

  • Exploring attachment patterns and relationship dynamics

  • Parts work using Internal Family Systems

  • EMDR for trauma processing when appropriate

  • Nervous system regulation and somatic awareness

Some sessions are reflective and spacious. Others are structured and skill-focused. Often, they are a blend.

If you are looking for individual counselling in Caloundra or the Sunshine Coast that integrates ACT, DBT, IFS and EMDR within a trauma-informed framework, you are in the right place.

My Approach to Individual Therapy

Some people come to individual counselling in Caloundra knowing they want to try EMDR for trauma, or that they’re looking for practical DBT skills to manage emotional overwhelm. Others arrive simply knowing they feel stuck, anxious, disconnected, or exhausted, and they’re not sure what kind of therapy would help.

Both are completely okay.

In our first sessions, I take time to understand your history, current stressors, patterns, nervous system responses, and goals. This assessment phase helps us decide together which approach, ACT, DBT, IFS, EMDR, or a blend, is likely to be most supportive for you right now.

Therapy is collaborative. We review what’s working. We adjust if needed. Your needs shape the direction of the work.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT helps you build psychological flexibility. Instead of trying to eliminate difficult thoughts and feelings, we work on changing your relationship to them.

This approach is especially helpful for:

  • Anxiety and intrusive thoughts

  • Perfectionism

  • Self criticism

  • Feeling stuck or directionless

ACT supports you to move toward a meaningful life, even when things feel hard.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel raw or overwhelming.EMDR can support:

  • Childhood trauma

  • Family and domestic violence recovery

  • Medical trauma

  • Assault or abuse

  • Negative core beliefs such as “I’m not safe” or “It was my fault”

EMDR does not require you to talk through every detail repeatedly. It works with how memory is stored in the nervous system.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is a compassionate, non pathologising model that understands the mind as made up of parts.

You may notice:

  • A critical part

  • A people pleasing part

  • A protective angry part

  • A shutdown or avoidant part

Rather than fighting these parts, we build understanding and internal safety. IFS is powerful for trauma recovery, attachment wounds, and deep shame.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT focuses on emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

We work on:

  • Managing intense emotions

  • Reducing impulsive reactions

  • Improving communication and boundaries

  • Strengthening interpersonal effectiveness

DBT is particularly helpful if you feel emotionally reactive, overwhelmed in conflict, or unsure how to manage distress without shutting down or escalating.

Healing Intensives in Caloundra

For some clients, weekly therapy feels too slow or stretched out. Life is busy. Trauma work can lose momentum between sessions. Sometimes you simply want a dedicated space to focus deeply.

I will soon be offering individual healing intensives in Caloundra for clients seeking focused trauma work using EMDR, parts work, and nervous system regulation.

Healing intensives involve extended sessions, typically three to four hours, designed to:

  • Target specific traumatic memories

  • Work through a defined theme such as betrayal, childhood attachment wounds, or post-separation distress

  • Create momentum in therapy when weekly sessions feel fragmented

Intensives are carefully assessed and structured. They are not about pushing faster. They are about creating containment, preparation, and depth in a way that feels safe and supported.

These sessions are best suited to clients who have completed assessment and stabilisation work.

If you are curious about whether a healing intensive may suit you, you’re welcome to get in touch or discuss this during your individual counselling sessio
